Composition programs in the classroom!

Students engage with curriculum in new ways as they bring literature to life through music and theater while writing and performing their own operas. Using interpretative skills and their own imaginative voices, they write scenes and songs, design and rehearse their work, and perform for their classmates in a culminating performance.

Information for Teachers: For grades 4–12. The program consists of 10 weekly class sessions of 90 minutes, a performance, and a 45-minute follow-up session. Two teaching artists plan content with the classroom teacher, who also works with students to complete assignments between visits. Access to performance space and a piano in good working order is necessary. Offered fall 2023 and spring 2024.

Cost: $1,500 for each participating classroom. Scholarships are available for qualifying schools.
