PURPOSE: To assist the Draper in the construction and preparation of costumes.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. BFA in Costume Technology.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • One (1) year experience as an Assistant Cutter in a small professional shop or three (3) years experience as a Master Seamstress in a large professional shop.
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.

    PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of construction of stage costumes and period costume cutting.
  • Knowledge of fabrics and fibers.
  • Knowledge of all applicable sewing machine operations and hand finishing techniques.
  • Experience with supervision of staff.
  • Ability to utilize all machinery normally required in costume construction
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with artists, staff, the public, and volunteers in a professional, confidential and tactful manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Reliable daily attendance and punctuality.
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner
