Upcoming Schedule Changes
Rehearsing and staging the world class performances our audience expects requires significant rehearsal, preparation, and planning. The uncertainty around our Orchestra’s contract means that we are currently unable to continue with our full schedule of performances, and unfortunately are cancelling the following performances:
- Simon Boccanegra on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:30pm
- Simon Boccanegra on Saturday, September 19 at 2pm
- Simon Boccanegra Livestream on Saturday, September 19 at 2pm
- Mary, Queen of Scots on Sunday, September 20 at 2pm
As a ticket holder you have the following choices:
- The value of your ticket(s) may be held on your account to purchase tickets for an upcoming performance in the 2026–27 season.
- The value of your ticket(s) may be donated.
- You may request a full refund for the value of your performance ticket(s).

We know this can be disappointing to ticket holders who were looking forward to coming to the San Francisco Opera for the start of our new season, and will update you on any new developments. At the present time, all other performances remain as scheduled.
How We Got Here
San Francisco Opera has been bargaining with the Orchestra since May to reach a new collective bargaining agreement, and the Orchestra chose to go on strike after we were unable to reach a deal prior to opening night. We are proud of every person who makes the San Francisco Opera a place of exciting artistic excellence. We deeply value the talents of our company members and their dedication to bringing our community some of the finest performances in the world. Our goal continues to be to reach an agreement that reflects our Orchestra’s artistry, but also acknowledges the financial realities of changing and challenging economic models, which persist despite the generosity of our donors and patrons. We have made clear that there are steps we must take to address those challenges to ensure the long-term stability of this institution we all love.
