Quiz Quest – Parsifal Out West
Overview
How long was intermission during the 1914 touring Chicago Opera production of Parsifal at San Francisco’s Tivoli Theater?
Answer: 2 hours
Back in 1914, opera-goers at San Francisco’s Tivoli Theater enjoyed a proper supper break! Performances began at 4:30 pm and paused for a full two-hour intermission—plenty of time to savor a meal before returning to Wagner’s epic. The Tivoli Theater, which opened in 1913 on the corner of Eddy and Mason, was later converted into a movie theater and eventually demolished in the 1950s.
