Alexandra Amati, originally from Naples, Italy, studied at the University of Pisa (Slavic Studies and Philology), Conservatory of Music of Lucca (piano and composition), and Harvard University (MA and PhD in musicology). Her scholarly interests include the Italian Renaissance, Italian opera, Feminist criticism, and more. She is a Professor Emerita at the University of San Francisco and a lecturer for many Bay Area organizations, including the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, the San Francisco Bach Choir, Philharmonia Baroque, and others. She is now at Harvard University, teaching and working as an editor for the operas of J.C. Bach. She continues to serve on many boards, both as member and as officer and President, including, among others, the Harvard Club of San Francisco, the Harvard Alumni Association, the San Francisco Early Music Society, the San Francisco Bach Choir, the Harvard University Choir Shared Interest Group and more. She is an alto profondo and in her free time she enjoys dancing Cuban salsa, playing the piano, traveling, knitting and solving complex jigsaw puzzles, playing with her black cat, reading, and more.
