In Conversation with Daniela Mack is available here
In a moving journey of discovery, re-connection, and riveting music, this new episode of In Song unfolds on the streets of Buenos Aires, as mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack returns to the homeland she left at the age of 6. Mack traces memories of her childhood, reunites with her family, and shares music of tango master Astor Piazzolla as well as “Havanaise” by Pauline Viardot (joined by pianist Iván Rutkauskas). In no-holds barred performances of Piazzolla’s "Yo Soy Maria" and "Los Pájaros Perdidos" ("The Lost Birds"), Mack’s powerhouse ensemble features bandleader J.P. Jofre on bandoneon, Pablo Estigarribia on piano, and Lucia Luque on violin. Mack is joined by her husband (and San Francisco Opera tenor) Alek Shrader and their two children for this homecoming, just prior to the start of rehearsals for Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego (The Last Dream of Frida and Diego), in which Mack portrays the iconic Mexican artist.
