7 Street Artists We Love
by San Francisco Opera Staff
Recognized the world over for his graffiti art and distinctive hieroglyphic script style, RETNA is the celebrated contemporary artist responsible for designing the stunning sets in our current production of Aida. Scroll ahead to see some of our favorite works by other artists known for their street art!

Maya Hayuk is another artist known for spectacular large-scale geometric murals, like this 2014 work made for the Bowery Mural. We'd love to see her design for the stage!

A local favorite, "Promise 2014" was painted on the side of the Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco by Clare Rojas, an artist associated with the Mission School.

Also courtesy of the Luggage Store, this compelling mural was painted on the back of the gallery by Os Gemos, Brazilian twin brothers and world-famous graffiti artists.

Like RETNA and a number of other contemporary artists, Os Gemeos have collaborated with Louis Vuitton to create a truly unique luxury scarf, pictured here.

The Obey x Keith Haring collection is another fun fashion collab, from the Keith Haring Foundation and the clothing line founded by street artist Shepard Fairy.

Finally, we end with Jean-Michel Basquiat's “Scull” from 1981. Basquiat first came to prominence as part of SAMO©, a graffiti duo working in Manhattan in the late 1970s.
