After being blown away by Jenůfa last summer, I’ve resolved to never miss a Janáček opera.
Aida
I’m most excited about Aida because the final dress rehearsal is the annual High School Night at the Opera—a night when students from all over the Bay Area take over the Opera House! This production is perfect for High School Night. RETNA’s designs are breathtaking and inspiring, the music couldn’t be better and I’m sure the students will relate to the characters and hard choices Aida has to make. I’m looking forward to the performance, but what I’m really excited about is the chance to see the next generation of opera-lovers engage with this truly great work.
Rigoletto
I’ve never seen Rigoletto, and whenever that fact comes up, one of my colleagues gets a dreamy look, sighs, and says, “It’s the greatest.” That’s enough of a recommendation for me!

Don Giovanni
Don Giovanni was my first opera. I saw it here in 2007 and for that reason it will always be special to me. Plus, the way Mozart uses music to add meaning to the words and actions in this opera is just masterful—I am forever in awe.
La Bohème
The Opera Guild did La Bohème as our Opera à la Carte touring show a couple years ago, and it was watching that show over and over that turned me from an opera enthusiast into an opera lover. I can’t wait to see it again!
