Take My Mother Home
"Take My Mother Home" from the Cantata Song of Man
Hall Johnson, Composer
| Artist | Michael Sumuel (bass-baritone) |
|---|---|
| Pianist | Maureen Zoltek |
In their final Atrium moment, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel and pianist Maureen Zoltek return to the music of Hall Johnson. His “Take My Mother Home,” with lyrics drawn from the Gospel of St. John, is based on a fragment of an old African American folksong from the collection of Wm. A. Logan.
“I’m a man of faith above all, a proud Black man, a proud son, a proud brother, a proud uncle, a proud husband and a very proud new father!,” shares Michael. “Music has always felt like home and a safe haven in times of trouble, which is needed now more than ever.”
