“My undergraduate voice teacher Earl Coleman is a huge champion for African-American and Black composers,” says bass-baritone Michael Sumuel. “Hall Johnson (1880-1970) become an important composer in my journey as an artist and person of faith. I’ve performed quite a few of his spiritual arrangements.”
