Demer, Clare

Clare DemerItalian-American soprano Clare Demer has been a member of the Regular Chorus of the San Francisco Opera since the 2020. She earned her Masters degree in Music from the University of Houston, and a B.M. in Vocal Performance, a B.S. in Psychology, and a minor in Italian at the University of Arizona. While obtaining her degrees, Clare performed many roles including Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Paula Jordan in Bolcom's Dinner at Eight, Monica in The Medium, L'Enfant in L'enfant et les sortilèges, and Second Lady in The Magic Flute.

Clare has participated in many festivals across the United States, Canada, and Europe, including the inaugural season of Teatro Nuovo in 2018, IVAI in Montréal, the Aspen Summer Music Festival and School, SongFest at Colburn, and the Saarburg Festival in Germany. In 2016, Clare was an Art of Song Fellow at the Toronto Summer Music Festival.

She is the recipient of many awards, including three Encouragement Awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 3rd place in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, the Raimondi Scholarship from Casa Italia, 1st place in the Marni Nixon International Voice Competition, and numerous accolades from the American Prize Foundation for both art song and opera performance.

Outside of singing, Clare enjoys birdwatching, roller skating, and painting.
