This season, San Francisco Opera is pleased to continue building on the Earn Your Wings campaign that began last year. Earn Your Wings is a San Francisco Opera initiative that invites patrons to engage with and support our community partnerships in meaningful and demonstrative ways. We are asking our audiences to deeply consider what it means to be a “global citizen” who participates in and advocates to support the arts, even as we fight to address critical societal issues, like homelessness.

In fall of 2018, San Francisco Opera partnered with Community Housing Partnership and Compass Family Services to instigate a new era of what is termed, civic practice. The goal of this partnership is for us to redefine what a collaboration might be between an arts organization and a social service agency. These efforts are about building community and working together in strategic ways that makes the art of opera more accessible, and the critical work of our community partners better known.

Our Partners

Compass Family Services

Compass Family Services leads the way in helping San Francisco families facing homelessness secure stable housing and attain economic self-sufficiency and family well-being. Compass Family Services has been service innovator for more than 100 years, and will assist an estimated 6,000 parents and children this year.

To learn more about Compass Family Services, read about their work at https://www.compass-sf.org/.

Community Housing Partnership

Community Housing Partnership is building a new future for our city by providing adults, children, seniors, and veterans experiencing homelessness a home combined with support services, like mental health services and job training, and advocating for policies that alleviate and prevent homelessness. The impact is long-lasting: 98 percent of Community Housing Partnership's past and present residents stay housed and off the streets, year after year.

We’re asking our community to support Compass Family Services and Community Housing Partnership by donating, volunteering, and spreading the word about the amazing work that they do.

In recognition of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week (November 16–24), San Francisco Opera encourages our audiences to join the Company and ‘earn their wings’ by engaging in opportunities to support Compass Family Services and Community Housing Partnership’s programs, as well as engage with holiday giving activities in their own communities. The Company’s long-term goal is to develop continued collaborative partnership activities, programming, and residencies into the future.
