Human Resources Generalist

PURPOSE:   

 

To provide human resources support for the San Francisco Opera Association.

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years of human resources experience. Non-profit or arts organization experience preferred.
  • Experience in documenting processes, as well as performing diagnostic audits.
  • Experience in Talent Acquisition.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; HRIS database expertise preferred.
  • Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgement and initiative
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Prior union environment experience helpful
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with all staff in a professional, confidential and tactful manner
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to learn about the different facets of human resources.
  • Eagerness to contribute new ideas to improve workplace/company culture.
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Talent acquisition management to include sourcing, screening, coordinating the interview process and facilitating offer packets while ensuring candidates have a pleasant experience.
  • Responsible for job description review, development, and approval.
  • Conducts new employee orientation and ensures timely collection of required paperwork.  Facilitates onboarding process.
  • Update HRIS database from information taken from confidential employee records and other documentation.
  • Works closely with Payroll to ensure efficient and timely transfer of data between the Human Resources and Payroll departments.
  • Updates all HR system tables consistent with employee data maintenance needs for new hires, current employees, and terminations.
  • Organization of employee file data process and data integrity.
  • Responsible for unemployment process as it is related to EDD.
  • Administers and recommends improvements to internal employee recordkeeping systems, including human resources database, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
  • Participates in developing department goals to improve current processes and the general workplace/company culture.
  • Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.
  • Verifies employment history for past and current employees for outside parties requesting information.
  • Conducts internal audits to ensure documents stored are within compliance.
  • With guidance from the Director of Human Resources, ensures company compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations and reporting, including EEOC, ACA, & CMS.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Builds effective working relationships with all employees.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, advises employees and management on standard HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintains employment listings and administrative staff listing on Opera website.
  • Reconciliation of departmental expenses and invoices for approval and submittal.
  • Represents department as needed for company projects or committees.
  • Performs ad hoc reporting.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
